Missouri State Bears and Lady Bears is the athletics program at Missouri State University which competes in NCAA Division 1 FCS football in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Their colors are maroon and white and they play their home games at their Robert J. Plaster Sports Complex (also known as the shortened Plaster Sports Complex). It is a 16,000 seat stadium which caters to a number of sporting events. It includes health and fitness strength and conditioning centers as well as a dozen handball/racquet ball courts. It was erected in 1941 and was originally named SMS Stadium, due to the original name of the school being Southwest Missouri State University. The Plaster name graced the complex due to the generous contributions of funding for renovations and improvements from Robert W. Plaster who was chairman of Evergreen Investments. The Bears competed in two FCS playoff games since they began their football program; one was in 1989 and the other in 1990 in which they lost both. Since the beginning of the program, the school has gone to four bowl games (1948, 1963, 1966, and 1989). They lost the four bowl games as well. The Bears have fielded 73 Division 1 All-Americans since 1985 in a number of different categories of honorable mention.
