The Eastern Washington Eagles is the athletics program for EWU that competes in the Big Sky Conference in the NCAA Division 1. Their last division title was in 2010 when they won the FCS title. Their home field was, which used to be named after one of their first coaches was changed to Roos Field after a generous $500,000 donation from current NFL starting offensive tackle Michael Roos who plays for the Tennessee Titans. Roos Field holds about 12,000 spectators and has recently had the addition of a red Sprinturf field. Their colors are also red and white which makes going to a home game very electrifying due to all the red on the field. From 2001 to 2005 the Eagles had a quarterback by the name of Erik Meyer who achieved an amazing passing record of 166.5 which honored him with the Walter Payton Award for being the best college football player in Division 1-AA. Some other notable names in football associated with the Eastern Washington Eagles includes New York Jets running back Jesse Chatman, University of Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen, former NFL wide receiver Jeff Ogden, NFL player Kurt Schulz, and 11 year Washington Redskins NFL player Ed Simmons.
