Set in the Wein Stadium is a collective of Columbia (baby) blue and white. It is a sea of blue with the frothy foaming of white which almost appears to be an unsettling movement through the body of fans cheering for their team. The Columbia Lions are part of Ivy League athletics which is a league comprised of eight schools including Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard, U.Penn, Princeton, and Yale. The second football game to be played against two schools across the country was between Columbia and Rutgers University in 1870. They are an FCS team that plays the game with as much dignity and respect as the name of the institution commands in the ears of the students who walk the grounds. Although their rankings and stats are not as grand as the Columbia name, they are an amazing program offering a plethora of varsity sport. They are most known for a major losing streak between the years 1983 and 1988 where the team lost a collective of 44 games in a row. To this day, there has been no other team to claim that many consecutive losses. They broke the streak with a win against Princeton in 1988 where they won by only three points. NFL hall of famer Sid Luckman played for Columbia in his heyday. Norries Wilson, head coach for the Lions is the first African American head coach in Ivy League football to this date.
